Allows you to turn computer monitors into a high resolution TV, with or without the computer being turned on. That's right! This external video processor has a RGB pass-through, that allows the TV broadcasts to be shown on the monitor, even if the computer is turned off. Hooking up this video processor/tuner is a breeze! It takes 15 minutes to have everything up and running. Even an electronics novice could figure everything out and have it all hooked up in no time at all. Once I powered on the unit, I went through some basic on-screen settings, including the Auto Program function of programming all of the cable channels into the processor. That was as easy as the push of a button, and it worked effortlessly within a couple of minutes. I set the resolution at the maximum of 1024x768 @ 60Hz, adjusted my audio bass and treble levels, and tweaked the contrast and brightness a bit. That is all there was to it. The rest of the factory settings were great. The remote control is small and light, and the buttons are mapped and laid out very well. The IR range of the remote is a little restrictive, but adequate for my home office. I am amazed by the picture quality that this processor produces. The TV reception is excellent, and the 1024x768 resolution provides a wonderful display on the CRT monitor that we have it hooked to. The on screen menus are easy to understand and navigate, and there are pop-up displays for channel, signal input, and volume settings. The S-Video input allows for an external DVD player or any other S-Video compatible device, and the RCA composite inputs are great for a VCR, camcorder, or stand alone game device (such as PS/2, X-Box, Game Cube, etc.). You can plug a set of basic amplified desktop speakers directly into the 3.5mm mini stereo output on the back of the N5, or if you run to the local Radio Shack and purchase a long 3.5mm stereo to RCA (Left & Right) Y-Cable, you can hook the audio output of this unit right into a stereo receiver. Other cool things to note about this unit include a built in sleep timer, selectable closed caption display, built in V-Chip parental controls, 181 channel TV tuner, and compatibility with all major CRT, LCD, LED, Projection, and Plasma displays. With a max resolution of 1024x768, this processor offers better video output performance than many televisions sold today. And it s so easy to switch between computer display and TV display, at just the push of a button. The N5 also provides 3:2 pull down correction that eliminates jitter from DVD movies that originated from motion picture film. Motion and adaptive de-interlacing also improves the clarity and sharpness of the overall image.
